trained in the art of deejay toasting by the legendary dennis alcapone, lester bulllock initially called himself alcapone junior, until maverick record producer lee scratch perry renamed him dillinger in the early 1970s, following his success on a west kingston sound system called smith the weapon, based in the ghetto of payne avenue. perry cut dillingers first dozen tracks, and there was early work for other producers such as prince tony, augustus pablo, enos mcleod and phil pratt, then, dillingers debut album, ready natty dreadie, was a local hit for studio one, but the cb200 set for island catapulted him to international prominence. yet, the dillinger material with the roughest edge was always produced by bunny striker lee, as this lp, answer my question, so amply demonstrates. first issued in the netherlands on the scramble label in 1977, it shows dillinger on fearsome form, his relaxed rhyming toasts tackling sound system matters, the rastafari lifestyle, action movie subplots, the highs and lows of romantic relationships, the need to help the less fortunate, and other burning issues of the day with biting wit and verbal dexterity, all delivered over tough aggrovators rhythms—including an unusual cut of the three piece suit rhythm. go deh! reissued on lp and cd, on cd for the first time ever!

six years ago, claremont 56 boss paul ‘mudd’ murphy tried to track down via his dj network, former freeez band-members john rocca and andy stennett to license pink rhythm’s “melodies of love”, for one of the originals compilations. they didn’t show up on the radar.
earlier this year, however, out of the blue, stennett got in touch with murphy. for much of the last two decades, he’d been living on a remote island off orkney, but was now pursuing music again.

deepblak’s chief alchemist aybee releases his fourth full-length studio album, the odyssey. as befitting its grand title, this newest long-player finds him concerned with personal journeys: both the personal one that has brought him to this point - living in berlin, 15 years since founding deepblak in his native oakland - and the one that beckons for him personally and creatively in future: aybee sees himself as being halfway up a mountain, looking back on where he has come from, and to where he will be headed next - both concepts play a profound role in the emotional textures of the album, which in true deepblak fashion draws from jazz, deep house, techno, hip hop, blues, experimentation, cinema, space, time and infinity.

adam port and jimpster have had a special kind of ‘virtual’ relationship the last few years with a mutual respect for each others productions and output of their respective labels. keinemusik, which adam runs alongside rampa, &me and reznik, has grown into one of the most consistent and hottest out there right now with every release creating a big splash and bringing magic to so many dancefloors around the world. adam recently remixed jimpster’s eel pie island to devastating effect bringing his own deep, late night atmospherics to the original and creating one of 2016’s underground hits in the process. so now we’re very pleased to welcome adam port (alongside legendary uk artists stereo mc’s) for a full release on freerange in the form of changes. opening the release we have adam’s own remix which sets the tone with a subtle and gently building groove providing the perfect backdrop for the stereo mc’s esoteric vocal. this lesson in restraint shows why adam’s productions work so well on big systems, letting all the focus shine firmly on the vocal creating an intense atmosphere with not a single huge breakdown in sight! next up we have the original of changes which takes a more electro approach with a simple bassline and crisp hats and once again allowing the vocal space to take centre stage for a deep and memorable track with a message. finally we have a remix from our own jimpster opts to push in a completely different direction. shuffling up the groove and laying down a repeating rhodes riff we’re treated to an altogether more soulful and less stark version making the perfect compliment to the the package. this one makes us think of his remix of osunlade’s momma’s groove which is no bad thing we feel! enjoy!

black merlin has gone on to release on a number of labels from around the globe including world unknown, crimes of the future, ln-cc, new jersey, common thread, island of the gods and sorn. more recently black merlin has debuted his first solo album on indonesian label island of the gods which came about when george was asked to travel over to indonesia to record traditional gamelan music and put together an album of his time over there from the field recordings hed gathered which is now complete. black merlin makes his debut on omnidisc records, with a two tracker of hard hitting distortion. different worlds music group/fat beats are thrilled to announce the lp and cassette release of the latest album from skizz (dj skizz), “cruise control,” which is skizz’s 2nd official producer-album. over the last couple years, skizz has been working extensively with your old droog, both producing and mixing his music, helping to propel the career of the young mc from coney island. he has also been touring with droog, making beats for other noteworthy artists, and helping start a new label, different worlds music group. this will be the 2nd official release from dwmg, with the first being timeless truth’s critically acclaimed “cold wave” album released this past february. “cruise control is a progression for me sonically,” says skizz. “this album takes you from where b.q.e. left off- it’s still that raw boom-bap, but this album is a bit more laid-back and melodious. it just feels good, like you’re cruising with your lady and the cool breeze is blowing through your hair!” skizz recruited a mix of veteran og mcs (o.c., planet asia, roc marciano, evidence, etc) as well as up-and-comers (your old droog, conway, hus kingpin, da villins etc.) to provide a sonically cohesive album that is set to be the official hip-hop soundtrack for the summer of ’16.

makam returns to dekmantel records with his first full-length album for the amsterdam based label. blankens ongoing search for fresh sounds, textures and rhythms has lead him to than sadet, a gorgeous piece of work that takes his sound into new directions. that sadet displays a refinement of makams sound. the music is highly tactile, with an emphasis on the surroundings of the environment in which it was created. blanken: than sadet is a secluded beach on an island in thailand. a mysterious atmosphere haunts it. its windy and the weather is always a bit worse compared to the rest of the isle. there are many cliffs and you cant swim because the waves are too high. four years ago i visited than sadet for the first time and ive been coming back ever since. at one point i decided to bring my studio equipment. for a week, i dedicated my days to making music. those sketches formed the basis of the album.
